- Shelnutt, a freshman forward at Furman and a graduate of Frederica Academy, scored seven goals in the state final as the Lady Knights won their third title in four years. She broke the Georgia high school record for goals in a season (68) and a career (211).

- Baseball
- Welch, a freshman southpaw at Bowdoin, did not allow a run in 52 innings for Portsmouth High, leading the Clippers to a 23-0 record and the Class I title. He was 9-0 with 84 strikeouts and just 16 hits allowed.

- Alice, a junior at Bayside High, won four straight Metropolitan PGA Junior events, including the New York City championship, shooting a two-day, even-par 146 at the Pelham Bay Golf Course. She was third at the Met PGA Tournament of Champions.

- Chartiers-Houston High, Houston, PA
- Softball
- Timko, a freshman at Robert Morris this fall, was a four-year all-state shortstop for Chartiers-Houston High. For her career there she batted .522 with 20 doubles, 21 triples, 32 home runs, 88RBIs, 52 stolen bases, 143 runs and a .667 on-base percentage.

- Basketball, Track and Field, Volleyball
- Armstrong, a senior at the Wesleyan School, has won seven state titles in three years: three in volleyball, two in basketball and two in high jump. Named Georgia's Miss Basketball, she averaged 19.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3. steals.

- Baseball
- McCowat, a graduate of Dominion High, struck out 20 and hit two homers in a 7-0 win over Gar-Feild; the righthander had 67 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. pitching this summer for American Legion Post 181, he led the state with a 1.00 ERA.

- Fields, a recent graduate of Pinecrest High, rallied from a seven-stroke deficit to win the North Carolina Amateur by shooting an eight-under-par 63 in the final round that included a double eagle. He also won the high school Class 4A title.

- Track and Field
- Ashley, a junior at Cedar Creek High, won her third consecutive Class 1A javelin title with a throw of 156 feet, the fourth best throw in the country this season. She also set school records in the long jump (17' 1/4") and the 300-meter hurdles (49.07).
